Summer, I love you a whole lot, but there is nothing quite so satisfying as dressing for fall. Even if this cold spell is only going to last a couple of days, it feels so amazingly good to be wearing boots & jackets again. Considering the amount of shoppers I saw over Labor Day Weekend already decked out in 72 degrees in oversized scarves and sweaters (& usually wearing an expression somewhere between determination & regret) I don’t think I’m the only one ready for the seasons to switch.
Not only does fall mean cider donuts, Halloween, my birthday, Porter’s birthday, and strangely enough about 90% of our closest friends’ birthdays, it means the travel plans we’ve been carefully making over the course of the summer are going to finally start arriving. I don’t want to give too much away this soon, but with any luck we’ll be making our way to at least four new cities in North America & Europe before winter arrives. Then, I’m heading down to the Caribbean for an island Christmas with my family & not long after that to South America. But back to today’s shoot…
I love monochrome outfits mostly because making them interesting is a task. The fact of the matter is, if you’re going to wear all black & white at least one piece you choose has to have some sort of “it” factor to keep the look from falling flat. For me, the vertical stripes were that “it” thing, and also, more subtly, the faux leather details on my leggings. A striped shirt like this one without a coat over it is a little bit louder than I would usually go, but with a black fall jacket for a day of shopping (mostly for autumn home accents at Crate & Barrel) it was just what I wanted. It makes a statement, but subtly.
Hope you enjoy the pics!
